Spiral Staircases is an extremely clean listen, utilizing simple sample loops from The Alchemist and back-and-forth, cypher-style verses from Larry June and Curren$y. Although I much prefer projects like Piñata that take a similar approach but with more vocal energy and interesting beats, this project is solid enough.
A true 5 star review. I’ve spent a lot of time with Larry June and curren$y’s discography and every moment of this felt like a testament to their highest abilities. The alchemist never fails and these three together just feels so right. It’s weird to say this should serve as a coming out party for a guy I first started listening to a decade ago (Curren$y via “Andretti 11/30”) and Larry June in a post “The Great Escape” world, but I truly hope it is. If you have little to no experience with these guys or the cohort of extremely talented rappers they hang around I cannot recommend this record enough. Extremely approachable without sacrificing a single thing that makes these two worth your time. Incredible
