Absolutely incredible mixtape. Perhaps the greatest of all time. The first 7 songs are among my favorite seven song stretches ever (as if I actually keep track of this hahaha). It genuinely blows my mind how ahead of its time this project was with its sound design utterly perfecting the then-blooming genre of trap, ALL BEFORE TRAVIS SCOTT’S FIRST STUDIO ALBUM. This guy was establishing the direction of music to come with one of his very first contributions. It’s hard to see Travis Scott as anything other than the star he is now, but at the time he was an up-and-comer that most had not heard of. I still remember being captivated by the idea of him titling the mixtape leading up to his first album as “Days Before Rodeo” when the album to come was Rodeo. Such a cool concept, planting his flag for everyone to see what was to come. His fame is well-deserved, and his genius may even be undersold.
