To be honest, I only recently got into frank ocean and I don’t know how I didn’t get into sooner. He’s one of the most talented artists in our generation. I genuinely cannot find the words to describe what an experience it is to listen to the whole thing. Pink matter and pyramids for me at least make up this whole album
How does one provide fresh ears for an album they have heard countless times? How does one attempt to objectively evaluate a work so fundamental to the development of their taste? The truth—it cannot be done. Released in 2012 and stumbling across it in 2014 (my top album of that year in fact), Channel Orange is an album that I have truly grown up with. Now over a decade later, it is clear that I am not the kid I once was, and Channel Orange does not play the same as it once did. But despite all the change, all the life that has happened in these twelve years, both I and Channel Orange remain who and what we were and always have been.
